Background:
Eric first began private practice as a trial attorney in 1991. In addition to his law practice, Eric presently serves as a part-time
Judge with the Whatcom County District Court. Eric has
extensive litigation experience in a variety of unique cases at all court levels. Eric's areas of expertise include: family law, appeals,
probate litigation, collaborative law, estate planning, and negotiations. He is a member of various bar associations and civic organizations
and speaks about legal issues at a number of different forums. Eric has been licensed to practice law in multiple state and federal courts,
and when not working or helping in the community, he is usually enjoying time outdoors with his wife and children.
Over the past 16 years of practice, Eric Weight has been actively involved in many legal and civic activities. He is presently a member
of the Washington State and Whatcom
County Bar Associations, Northwest Collaborative Professionals, the International
Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the Washington State Bar Association Electronic Communications Committee, and the Samish Neighborhood
Board of Directors. Eric is a professionally trained mediator and an active founding member of the Northwest Collaborative Professionals.
Eric Weight is a former member of numerous other professional organizations, including: the Virginia State and Skagit County Bar Associations, the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Washington Defender Association. Eric has worked with Whatcom County as a senior attorney for development of the juvenile and adult drug court programs. As a Bellingham attorney, Eric Weight has television and radio experience including testifying and lobbying on legal policy at the Washington State Legislature.
Eric Weight is a former board member of the following community and professional organizations: Board of Directors for the Washington State Association of Drug Court Professionals; Board of Directors American Civil Liberties Union (local Whatcom County chapter); Bellingham Parks and Recreation Advisory Board; and the Bellingham Bicycle-Pedestrian Advisory Committee. Eric is a former member of numerous other legal and civic organizations and a regular participant in Bellingham community speeches, high school presentations, and public debates. Eric has received a variety of awards for his professional services, and has taught numerous continuing legal education seminars for other attorneys. Eric Weight is a graduate of the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia.
Eric Weight has extensive experience in post trial appeals. He has completed oral arguments and written briefs in a number of cases before
the Washington Supreme Court, the Washington Court of Appeals and the Virginia Court of Appeals. Eric has written briefs for the United
States Supreme Court and United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Published opinions for Eric Weight's appeals include:
